Ajith's 50th film with Gautham Menon

Ajith will be teaming up with one of Kollywood's favorite directora Gautham Menon for his 50th film. The movie will be produced by Durai Dayanidhi, son of Union Minister M.K. Azhagiri, who has already marketed Gautham Menon's Vaaranam Aayiram an year ago. Sources say that Oscar fame musician A.R. Rahman will score the music; however, the official announcement is expected in a day or two. Earlier, there were rumours that Venkat Prabhu will direct Ajith's 50th film. The star is currently busy wrapping up Aasal, which is all set for a January release.

Namitha to walk the ramp at CIFW

Glamour queen of South Namitha will walk the ramp for Chennai-based designer Sidney Sladen at the Chennai International Fashion Week on December 16. Namitha is currently busy with her Telugu venture Simha with Balakrishna and Nayantara. She is also working in her first Malayalam film Black Stallion, which will be a trilingual in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. Sidney Sladen is one of Chennai's topnotch designers and a close friend of Trisha and Ramya Krishnan. Earlier also, the designer has roped in Namitha to launch his second outlet 'Sidney Sladen' at the Le Meridien. The fashion-conscious actress seems to be a regular client of Sidney. So now we know from where those low necks, sleeveless and high hemlines came from. Situation of fake currency 'alarming': FM

Government admitted that the problem of fake currency was 'alarming and dangerous' as some groups are trying to destabilise the Indian economy by injecting massive doses of counterfeit notes in the country.

"There are two kinds of groups, one is of individuals working for profits, but much more dangerous is the effort of injecting massive doses of fake notes in the country, trying to destabilise the economy," Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said in Rajya Sabha.

In his written statement, Mukherjee also admitted that the security breaches of the notes were last updated in 2005 while a committee has been set up in this regard.

"The situation is alarming," he said answering supplementaries during Question Hour.

But, it would take another two years before upgraded security features are included in the currency notes, the minister said.

He said it would be difficult to quantify counterfeit currency in circulation. "It is anybody's guess," he said, adding that as per 2005 figures there are 48.9 billion pieces (of genuine currency) in circulation and of these 0.001 per cent could be fake. There is no authentic information about fake currency.

Mukherjee said he was not an "alarmist" as Finance Minister. "I cannot afford to be one," he said, adding that more cases are being detected, showing high alertness of government agencies

Telangana issue: Chiranjeevi to sit on fast against Telangana

Hyderabad, Dec 16 (ANI): The Centre's go ahead to initiate the process for the formation of the Telangana State has stirred up a hornet's nest. After Telangana Rashtra Samiti's chief K Chandrashekhar Rao's hunger strike for creation of Telanaga it is the turn of actor-turned politician Chiranjeevi who has decided to sit on fast against the move to create Telangana.

Chiranjeevi, the chief of Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) will begin his fast later in the day on Wednesday at Tirupati to press for a "United Andhra" and express his commonality with all those protesting against Statehood to Telangana.

The declaration was made after Chiranjeevi, consulted his party MLAs over the concerned matter on Wednesday morning.

Chiranjeevi was likely to make an announcement in favour of a united Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday, but it seems that the PRP now faces a split.

Sixteen PRP MLAs belonging to the coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions had tendered their resignations last week in support of a united Andhra.

However, there are reports that Telangana district leaders of PRP are up in arms, and those belonging to the Warangal and Karimnagar, have already quit.

Meanwhile, the students of Osmania University and Kakatiya University have declared that they would boycott the movies featuring Chiranjeevi and his family, if his party talks of a united Andhra Pradesh.

Chiranjeevi had fought the Lok Sabha elections this year on a promise of separate statehood for people belonging to the Telangana region. (ANI)

London, Dec 11 (IANS) British Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif has retained the top spot in an annual list of the world's 50 sexiest Asian women unveiled Friday.

The British Bollywood babe beat off tough competition from other actresses, former beauty queens, models and pop stars to hold on to the Eastern Eye crown she won last year.

Indian actresses took eight of the top 10 spots, with British television star Laila Rouass and Pakistani actress Mehwish Hayat completing the list.

The top 10 of the Eastern Eye 50 Sexiest Asian Women are: Katrina Kaif, Priyanka Chopra, Freida Pinto, Laila Rouass, Kareena Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Lara Dutta, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Mehwish Hayat and Deepika Padukone.
